Lots of people, guys and girls, recommend Plenty of Fish online dating (which I dub Plenty-Of-Flesh) because it’s free. I’ve been a member there twice now, and I haven’t been impressed either time.
The site places a lot of emphasis on photos, which has led to people judging one another not by their messages, but solely by looks. I’m not impressed with the forum moderator either, who has a firm yet obnoxious and stuck-up attitude to posts that raise questionable suggestions issues, even with the site.
Many of the people there have been rude and/or full of hot air, both in the forums and through messaging. Even the friendliest of messages went ignored - the sent messages list proved extremely helpful in finding out just where they were going.
Plenty of Fish advertises itself as a dating site, which is my biggest disappointment: the only people who’d enjoy Plenty of Fish are the average loud, outgoing people who already have “great” lives and have no intention of being serious.
As with most other places I’d suggest someone experience it for themselves, if only for them to reach their own conclusion. I’ve had much better results with Match and Perfect Match.

Hi, I've been a matchmaker for many years and have experience with just about every dating site out there. I have thoroughly reviewed and rated the best
POF is a pretty hard environment for women to present themselves in a favourable light. As such, it’s unlikely that there are very many men using that site for potential long term relationships. Even guys that are thinking long term will avoid using the site because they assume MOST guys are mostly using the site for “dating” only. POF is fine for dating … buts lets be honest, MOST guys will NOT consider women in that environment to be suitable for real relationships. I’m not saying anything bad about women that use the site, it’s just the environment … guilty by association.
—
POF is also a high volume environment, which means, in order to make the long term potential cutoff, a women has to be that much better to get past the negative environment.
—
There are no shortage of decent guys passing thru POF. However they are usually on and off in a matter of weeks as the environment doesn’t offer what they want. MOST women simply check their email and do nothing else. If women don’t actively search and approach, they’re going to miss those guys and end up picking the best from the leftovers.
—
I wouldn’t recommend POF for guys they actually have something to offer and are considered decent catches.
—
There is a very significant amount of false male competition there as well. If you are a guy that actually has all “his ducks in a row”, you will be competing against guys who don’t, but just BS their way through it in their profile. I found women on the site have a very hard time passing on the “bait and switch” trick. I think that saids a lot about the objective of women that use the site. They are primarily looking for guys at the top of their range of attraction, yet women don’t realize that guys that bring all that to the table are simply NOT going to state that in the profile … as it attracts the wrong type of women.
—
I would guess most people (male/female) that meet from the site, are little more than two illusions meeting … and then each person deciding the other doesn’t validate their own illusion. It goes something like this … “You didn’t lie well enough about your FAKE awesomeness, so I can’t continue seeing you, because it would mean I’m not as awesome as I pretend to be either.”
—
Take what you want from me … but leave me my illusions. For without that, I am just normal, AND that’s not acceptable.
POF likes to claim that they ban people that are unfit to date. To me it’s nothing more than a sham and a hoax. If that were true, about 80% of the men on there would be banned. You have married and/or attached men that are looking for that proverbial “side project” if you catch my drift. Then you have the usual players looking to add another notch under their belts and the site is fraught with them. Like the law of averages it’ll all come back to bite them on their ass or in this case their Mr. Happy REAL HARD!
Then you have the bald, short, aging, overweight and not-so-physically attractive men looking for their long shot. These are ones that have no sense of reality, common sense or self awareness. They’re kidding no one, but themselves.
But there are women that are serial daters and looking for their flavor of the week. I’ve seen the pictures in their profiles of them dancing, holding hands, etc. with a different man. Believe me, it’s not a male relative. If they say,”He’s just a friend”. Yeah right! A friend with benefits. Any decent, self respecting man should steer clear of these “whores” whatsover. Then you have the “damaged goods” women that were dumb enough to get played and screwed (both literally and figuratively). Avoid these women as well.
There’s the “Serious Member” badge which is a farce. I’ve noticed that some of the women on POF got theirs for free. Some of them stated that they didn’t pay for nor wanted it and couldn’t find a way to get right of it. Again, it’s just another bait and switch tactic on the part of POF to line their pockets. I mean c’mon, do they take us for idiots and think we were born yesterday? I can imagine some jabroni buying that badge thinking it’ll improve his chances. It won’t. Get a clue.
My overall evaluation of POF is it’s nothing more than a virtual meat market. It’s like the bar or club scene when you have an attractive woman being surrounded by hordes of men hoping they’ll get their turn. Being the dogs these men are. Any decent man with a reasonable amount of self respect wouldn’t put himself under those circumstances. POF is a dicey, high risk environment and when you play with fire you’re bound to get burned….badly. But, it’s a free site. So I guess you get what you play I mean pay for.
“Trust and you’ll be trusted”, said the liar to the fool.
the site is ran by nazi’s and bitter divorced women.. they will ban you for any reason.. and abot 65% of the female profiles are fake(the good looking ones) generated for google ad revenue and to keep males on for a while until they get banned also..
the real female profiles are usually divorced, over weight and w/kids…
POF is a free site and you really do get what you pay for. the paid sites are far better.
