Plenty of FishLots of people, guys and girls, recommend Plenty of Fish online dating (which I dub Plenty-Of-Flesh) because it’s free. I’ve been a member there twice now, and I haven’t been impressed either time.

The site places a lot of emphasis on photos, which has led to people judging one another not by their messages, but solely by looks. I’m not impressed with the forum moderator either, who has a firm yet obnoxious and stuck-up attitude to posts that raise questionable suggestions issues, even with the site.

Many of the people there have been rude and/or full of hot air, both in the forums and through messaging. Even the friendliest of messages went ignored - the sent messages list proved extremely helpful in finding out just where they were going.

Plenty of Fish advertises itself as a dating site, which is my biggest disappointment: the only people who’d enjoy Plenty of Fish are the average loud, outgoing people who already have “great” lives and have no intention of being serious.

As with most other places I’d suggest someone experience it for themselves, if only for them to reach their own conclusion. I’ve had much better results with Match and Perfect Match.

  1. User Review # 122

I agree with everyone else on here. I had a really bad experience with POF. The women on there were rude, obnoxious and would not respond to even the nicest of messages. Finally, I was kicked off the site with no explanation whatsoever. They could have, at the least, told me why and given me a chance to correct whatever problem they “thought” I had.

  2. User Review # 121

I just read three reviews that bashed the Plenty of Fish Dating site. I agree; I was on the site for a little over five months. During that period I met five men, which is an average of one a month. This in itself should indicate that I wasn’t rushing to meet every man who wanted to date me. I thought I was being careful.

In connection with the above, four of the five men I met posted photos that were anywhere from eight to as much as twenty years old. Additionally, they lied about their ages to the same degree. I was so stunned when it kept happening over and over. At any event, I gave up on Plenty of Fish today and just joined connectingsingles. Hopefully, I will fare better on that site.

I know this is off topic but can someone please explain how men think they can get away with lying about their appearance and ages by ten to twenty years. The last guy I met from Plenty of Fish posted a pic that depicted him as being a guy who was maybe late 40’s or early 50’s with brown hair and a full face. The man who showed up was clearly in his mid to late 60’s with snow-white hair and a thin gaunt face. When I said something about this, he said that he didn’t post an old picture. Why it must have been the light reflecting from the camera that made his hair look brown. When I continued arguing with him that what he said was not probable since he looked so much older and his face was so much thinner, he told me I was too hung up on pictures. He actually went on to say that I need to seek professional help, because of my obsession with pictures.

RE: USER REVIEW #119 (Body classifications):

“Average” is a subjective classification. I’ve found that many women who claim to have an “average” body type are generally at least 40 pounds overweight. POF has a “Few Extra Pounds” classification (”few” being an understatement, generally); some of the women who realize they’re at least 40 pounds overweight will put themselves into this category. But some of these women who claim to be a Few Xtra Pounds should rightly be in the “BBW” category (BBW stands for BIG Beautiful Woman,” a euphenism for Big Boned, which itself is a euphenism :-)

As for sizes — 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14: the higher the number the bigger the woman. 14 is considered a “plus size” in department stores I believe. So if a woman tells you she’s a size 6 or 8, you can be reasonably sure she’s not overweight and will not be mistaken for Rosie O’Donnell by people on the street.

I’m about 15 pounds overweight, so I’m neither fat nor skinny. I put my body type as “Average” which is accurate. I think it fair to say the “average” person has a few extra (5-20) pounds they’d like to shed.
