Lots of people, guys and girls, recommend Plenty of Fish online dating (which I dub Plenty-Of-Flesh) because it’s free. I’ve been a member there twice now, and I haven’t been impressed either time.
The site places a lot of emphasis on photos, which has led to people judging one another not by their messages, but solely by looks. I’m not impressed with the forum moderator either, who has a firm yet obnoxious and stuck-up attitude to posts that raise questionable suggestions issues, even with the site.
Many of the people there have been rude and/or full of hot air, both in the forums and through messaging. Even the friendliest of messages went ignored - the sent messages list proved extremely helpful in finding out just where they were going.
Plenty of Fish advertises itself as a dating site, which is my biggest disappointment: the only people who’d enjoy Plenty of Fish are the average loud, outgoing people who already have “great” lives and have no intention of being serious.
As with most other places I’d suggest someone experience it for themselves, if only for them to reach their own conclusion. I’ve had much better results with Match and Perfect Match.

Markus the owner of POF claims he put his site together out of the goodness of his tiny little heart because he didn’t want to see lonely people being conned by the big boys making money as he runs the service from his apartment,maybe that was the case in the beginning when he had no members and only stated this to get more fools interested…still his actions speak louder than his fake sincerity and the man is basically a joke!All he does is brag that he’s made $11,000,000 from starting this service and that abusers are easily deleted from POF compared to paid sites,yet he has no problems allowing these same scumbags that he supposedly despises to advertise on his clean site that fills your computer with spyware that can originate from anywhere from yieldmanager.com to warez…and why are the under-age girls/hookers/bookies/gays pretending to be women/scam artists still allowed to remain on with absolutely no controls/screening/customer assistance of any kind or any possibility of complaining.Furthermore, why do you also think cops are roaming the site;men have had their money stolen and women have been raped…maybe it also happens on other sites …yet this site is packed with low-lives and attracted by the lack of security which is a basis for an investigation.
And forget the Forums…no Freedom of Speech whatsoever…just a bunch of pathetic Mods trying to make friends/dates by banning individuals who speak the truth for their female on-line sweeties…good example…biggest jerk…trappedonbaystreet…check out his profile…see if any of his favourites ever get banned or if you are winning a debate with one of them how fast you’ll be removed…actually according to the Constitution in Canada they are breaking numerous laws that do not allow your rights of expression and women generally provoke males knowing they won’t be banned while males will if they defend themselves.
Also there is a simple test we did for the huge amount of fake profiles that assures hits to make the advertisers happy…we used different IP’s to make complaints on phony individuals/photos…as soon as we did we were removed and could not create new profiles as they track you…however all the phony profiles remained even though the complaints came from many different locations.
All they talk about is the success stories…how about all the individuals who have been ripped off,assaulted,taken for a ride,etc…I think as a group we would have an excellent chance in winning a class action suit and if no profits were being made there is a chance he would not be liable…yet $11,000,000 makes POF more than liable and Markus has already admitted that he only works a few hours to run POF indicating the servers do all the work and he does nothing for security/privacy/legit safety.Honest users are being used without knowing it and I agree with the majority…this clown should be stopped and it’s no wonder that even a few hackers have stated on-line that they are going after him…that should be interesting.
Plenty of Fish is one sketchy dating website. Site and its forums are overrun with unemployed trolls who whine they aren’t getting a fair shake because they’re short or bald or fat. Nevermind most do not post representational photographs and lie about practically everything on their profiles. One gentlemen posted a picture of his college age son in his profile, claimed to be a doctor and said he worked at the teaching hospital I did. Well, it turned out he was about 50, and while it was true he worked at the same hospital he worked there as a janitor. I am not materialistic. I was looking for someone who was as educated and professional as myself. I am a medical sociologist, with both an MD and PhD. I wanted someone who would be a good match for my lifestyle.
Many of the men are either trolls or have decidedly unrealistic expectations in regards to the kind of women they should be dating. I am attractive, fit (no, not fat, but 5′4 and 120 lbs) yet I was constantly being messaged by overweight, balding, trolls with no education who turned abusive when I did not wish to read their badly spelled messages or when I deleted them without hesitation.
I have since moved to match.com where I was matched with another doctor and we’ve been dating for over a year.
Stay away from Plenty of Fish!
Where do I begin? I have read a lot of the reviews and must say that I agree with most of them. Plenty of Fish is a total waste of time and probably the worst dating site on the internet. It is filled with rude arrogant people who can’t be bothered to reply to e-mails. Most of the women I met were unemployed, recovering alcholics, on welfare, 10 - 15 years older than their photos would lead you to believe, and 25 pounds heavier than their photos.
The forums are dominated by a set of moderators who are control freaks and a clique of truly ghastly females who make cutting remarks and then run around reporting anyone who disagrees them. The worst is Leanne who spends her days gloating about the fact that she is married and putting down others about their attitude.
Moderation is inconsistent. Members can make some really right wing statements and derogatory comments about various ethnic groups and never be banned. However, if anyone crosses one of the forum pets, “poof” they are gone.
In short, while the site is free, it is definitely not worth the bother. Save your money…..
