The more bogus plentyoffish profiles people click on, the more more advertising revenue the manipulative site owner receives. So its in his interest to have lots of fake men and women who don't respond back to e-mails, keeping people ad-clicking away. Its not really a dating site anyway, but a social network, and to lure people into viewing advertising under the pretense you can find someone at plentyoffish. The SERIOUS USERS feature introduced last year doesn't get any better responses either, and is about every bit as bad as the fake profiles. Maybe all this is only the prelude to prep people into believing that it needs to be turned it into a pay-site. Plentyoffish is not about finding someone, but about the owner lining his pockets.

Here is it is in black & white. I found a picture of a real life person who is young, gorgeous and I used my noggin to create the most alluring profile I could. 100 % fake. I landed on 160 favorites lists in 1 day. My inbox was bombarded. I couldn't even find the time to read all my email. This little experiment proved a lot to me. The same men messaging my fake girl were the same ones who would not message the real me or who HAVE, yet, their set of values were different in speaking with me, the real me. This experiment proved:

1. Men are shallow. Meld a pic of a hot looking 18 year old who says she's 31 with a profile that states she finds ways to party and take care of her body at the same time and you get losers of all ages and sizes trying to get their ego boost by having fake me write them back or, GASP !, possibly even sleep with them?

2. Men are stupid. Here you have the real me, an attractive, intelligent (albeit conniving) 30 something year old woman who is serious about dating, has high moral values and a suitable wild side balance the good girl side....pretty much every (serious) man's dream...and she gets passed up because her profile pic did not entail boobs falling out of her blouse or close-ups of her ass.

And please, do not reply here calling me unethical for lieing. Should I receive kudos for protecting myself? I'd say so. Those of you ready to call me a liar are the same men who's poor ego got bruised when fake me told them to beat it !

AGREED ! 100 per cent ! Off POF, I have dated a raging alcoholic, a compulsive gambler, a stalker who sat outisde my house for 5 hours straight, an ex con who was on his way back to jail, a drug addict, a sex addict, a guy who was married but lied about it and the most boring guy on the planet. So many liars, so little time. One fellow's picture must have been about 10 years old. He shows up at the classy bar we chose dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie. And I mean those old school sweatpants that we wore in the 90's. On top of that, I couldn't help but notice that he didn't match his pictures, unless he gained 50 lbs, lost 3 inches in height and lost all his hair overnight. And then these pathetic losers think you will stay on a pity date with them because you took the trouble to get to the bar. Not me. I straight out call the guy a liar and walk back out. Some of these men must think we're stupid. Like the ones who create a profile expressing their desire for a long term relationship and then after some PI work, you find them under the intimate encounters section at the same time they are in the "serious" section ! I dated 30 men off that evil site, wasted time, money and had a few heartbreaks along the way. The only thing is, just when I was about to give up. I found him. His profile seemed dorky, his picture was worse but when I gave him a chance to become just my "friend", we fell in love almost instantly. Thank God. I love him with all my heart but God forbid, things end....I would rather hand out my business card to every high-end stranger I see on the street then fall for the liars on POF again ! HEED MY WARNING ! I got lucky in finding my soul mate, but one click of the mouse less, and I would have walked away a battered woman !
